Tequila Rose Healthified

My favorite drink adapted to my healthy lifestyle. Cream... Strawberry... tequila! Let’s make a toast!

The original Tequila Rose (or at least the first one that found its way to my lips) is an exquisite alcoholic drink that's perfect for shots or on the rocks. I'll have some of both, please!

The exotic and bold taste of the cream and strawberries with premium quality tequila is just a perfect combination.

I'm not a hypocrite. I freaking love the original Tequila Rose! My sister and I have this unspoken "tradition" that a bottle of Tequila Rose is an essential part of our birthday or Christmas gifts. Always!

The first time I had this delicious tequila drink was when I was like 20. (Shame on me to say that out loud! I'm 37 now! So, it's been a while!) I didn't know what to expect that first time, but I wasn't a Tequila Virgin, so I wasn't waiting for a hard kick.

Tequila? Really? Yes, really! When I was 18 and in my first year of university, I discovered the nice nightlife. That nightlife offered 25 cent shots and $1 drinks. If you make the math, for $5 I had 4 tequila shots and 4 whipped cream topped "orgasmos". Awesome deal when just an "orgasmo" cost $5 each, 17 years ago!

Tequila rose homemade, easy cocktail recipe, low carb cocktail,

For an 18 years old young lady that was discovering the world for the first time, this was a blast! The enjoyment lasted very little, though. I found my uncle at a nightclub (or perhaps he found me). A hundred kilometers away from my parents' home, my newly found freedom was discovered and snitched. I still love my uncle, despite venting my little secret in front of my puritan mom!

Fast forward a few months, and I was at a restaurant asking the bartender for a sweet drink that's both strong and delicious! And he made the official introductions! Tequila Rose meet Nydia! Nydia, meet Tequila Rose! After that moment, the elegant black bottle with rose drawings became a very good friend of mine!

Luckily, this first-time experience with flavored tequila was great. It slid down my throat nicely and benevolent, like the most delicious velvety drink I have never tasted before. And that I never will.

But my love for Tequila Rose found a bumpy road when I began my journey to a healthier better me! The 7g net carb per shot is a little too high when we have into consideration that I will not settle for just one shot of this deliciousness. So, my options were little. I should dish the freaking diet! Forget about controlling my carb intake and just indulge in what made me happy or... I could create a clone of my favorite "cocktail" to enjoy often and leave the original black bottle for special occasions only!

Soon I discovered my version was so good I could continue enjoying it even on special occasions! Of course, from time to time I indulge in some original Tequila Rose but I don't have to deprive myself of the things I like because I can "customize" them to fit my lifestyle.

Some thoughts:

You can either use store-bought condensed milk if you find one made with stevia, or you can make your own. I use 12 oz evaporated milk and 3/4 cup Swerve. I let the mix simmer at medium-low heat until I have like 8 oz left. By then, it will start to feel a little thicker. Remove the "skin" that forms on top and discard it. After reaching room temp, refrigerate for a couple of hours or overnight.

For the strawberry puree, wash, pat dry, and cut the leaves of 1 1/2 cup strawberries. Process in a blender or food processor. You can strain it. But feel free to skip the straining process if you don't mind some seeds or pulp.

Pour in an airtight glass container (like a coquito bottle) and refrigerate. I have noticed the flavors are even better after at least 12 hours in the refrigerator.

Piece of advice:

Make the most of this alcoholic beverage! I have used it for Creme Brulees, Tequila Rose Tiramisu, Tres Leches. Use your favorite recipe and substitute the flavors for equal amounts of this Healthified Tequila Rose for out of this world desserts!
